In what proved to be an exceptional weekend of hockey for Galway Hockey club culminated with Galway 1st taking on their counterparts in NUIG! NUIG who were fresh off the back of a successful inter varsaites which seen them defeated at the semi-final stage of the plate by Trinity! So it was an interesting challenge that faced Galway 1st as they sought to extend their 100% start to the season, the game started tentatively with NUIG offering stiff resistance it want until a fantastic finish from Eavan Murphy as she dispatched a bouncing ball into the roof of the NUIG goal to hand Galway the lead. As expected the flood gates opened with Trainor, Murphy and Melvin all adding to the total to leave the score at half-time 4-0. Into the second half and Galway continued where they left off with Meave Faherty grabing a brace her second an outstanding deflection following a pin point pass from Timmins. While Jessica Mc Nickan made sure following a short corner attack before Eavan Murphy completed her hat-trick. In truth the Galway defence of Grace Melvin, Freddie Timmins, Louise Fahy and Claire Heskin were never fully tested. So in the end Galway warmed up for their trophy match against Kilkenny next week in fine style!
